The High Fens are a wonderful experience any time of year:

Spring

The moor is slowly waking up from its winter slumber. The yellowish moor grass of winter is slowly turning green again.

Our tip: Be sure to wear waterproof shoes, as many paths are still wet. Early in the morning, it’s especially quiet and ideal for nature watching.

Summer

The moor is green, and the weather is often pleasant. Cotton grass is in bloom, and starting in August, the heather begins to bloom.

Our tip: Bering plenty of water and sunscreen, as many areas offer little shade. Start your hike early in the morning or in the evening to take advantage of the pleasant temperatures.

Autumn

The moor takes on intense, vibrant shades of rusty orange and red. The heather continues to bloom well into September.

Our tip: The early morning fog offers spectacular photo opportunities. Fall is often rainy. The wooden walkways can be slippery. Shoes with good traction are a must.

Winter

With a little luck, there will be snow in the High Fens, lending the moor a magical atmosphere and a pleasant silence.

Our tip: Wear warm clothes and non-slip shoes. Be sure to stay on the marked trails, as it can be harder to find your way in the snow.

Around the Victorhof, you'll find a well-developed network of bike paths that take you straight into the natural beauty of the High Fens.

One of the biggest draws is our proximity to the Vennbahn Bike Trail, one of the region’s most famous cycling routes. This former railway line winds through stunning scenery and is perfect for leisurely rides.

Hiking is permitted only on marked trails and boardwalks—the moorland is dangerous off these paths (deep mud, unstable ground)

The moor is divided into access zones A/B/C/D:

A zones: freely accessible
B zones: open to the public on the trails
C Zones: only with a certified nature guide
D Zones: strictly off-limits

In the moor, wooden walkways can be slippery when wet—sturdy footwear is recommended
